The high stakes have prompted Coach Matekwa to implement a more rigorous training program. “We’ve significantly intensified our training regime,” he discloses. “The number of training days has increased from three to four per week, with a particular focus on building endurance.” This amplified focus acknowledges the demanding nature of the finals and the need for peak physical conditioning.

Coach Matekwa identifies a specific game as a turning point for the Oaks’ success: “The encounter against Embu Dragons in Chuka proved to be a true test. Potential promotion is viewed as a catalyst for further development. “Success this season has the potential to be the seed that cultivates new programs,” says  Matekwa. “We envision establishing a ladies’ side and an age-grade development program to ensure a robust pipeline of talent for the future.”

Promotion to the Championship League offers distinct strategic advantages. “With our new home ground at the Mangu main campus,” he explains, “we’ll be in a prime position to execute on our long-term plans. This includes maintaining two core teams that can participate in both KUSA and Union games, fostering a continuous exchange of experience between the teams. Ultimately, our goal is to reach the Kenya Cup well-prepared.”

The varsity side Coach  is quick to credit the unwavering dedication of his players for the team’s success. “I am incredibly impressed by the dedication, discipline, and consistency displayed by the boys throughout the season,” he commends. “Everyone, from the bench to the starting lineup, has exceeded expectations. Captain Jared and his assistant Johnstone Wafula have been instrumental in providing leadership and inspiration. Players like Brian Ondesa,  and Anderson Oduor,  have delivered moments of brilliance, with Evans Kiluva playing a crucial role in solidifying team unity.”
